Responsible Choice

We've hand-selected a range of tours and stays across the world that go above and beyond to be a force for good by supporting local businesses, educating staff, challenging local norms, or promoting conservation and biodiversity efforts. Your Responsible Choice helps increase the positive impact of your trip.

A relatively unobtrusive 30-bedroom lodge, the Posada Amazonas has been built with modern ecological and traditional techniques. Rooms are large and have private facilities; with hot water showers and mosquito nets. All rooms have wooden varnished floors and walls, along with electric lights and plugs. They offer free internet and electricity during peak hours in the morning, afternoon and evening.

The Comfort and Suite rooms feature private hammocks and there are six hammocks in the hotel grounds for all guests to use. Rooms are designed to be at one with the rainforest and only have three walls; with a private open veranda facing the dense rainforest. There is a canopy tower allowing access to the rainforest canopy, and nearby is an oxbow lake and small macaw lick.

The Ese Eja Native Community of Infierno, Peru owns the lodge and works with a local operator who supports its marketing and management. This partnership has been one of the most successful ventures between a local community and a tourism company in Peru by creating meaningful profits and full-time employment for the Ese Eja people. Each year, profits are shared among the households of the community, increasing annual incomes by 25 percent. The lodge also provides around 20 full-time jobs for the community.
