One of the newest properties along the Chao Phraya River in Thonburi, the AVANI Riverside Bangkok Hotel is a sleek, modern high-rise hotel with contemporary styling and a wide range of facilities. The lobby is on the 11th floor of a tower block with rooms leading right up to the 26th-floor where a large, rooftop infinity pool awaits.
High ceilings and large windows give the interiors a great sense of space, while pale woods and pared-back, modern styling give it a chic, international air. The rooms feature business-standard decor and large windows to make the most of the views.
Along with the rooftop pool, there's a large gym and a small spa, as well as four restaurants and bars offering everything from fine dining to Asian tapas, light snacks and craft cocktails. In the evening the chic Attitude rooftop bar and restaurant offers sweeping views of the twinkling city lights. Guests can also take advantage of the restaurants and entertainment at the Anantara Riverside Resort, a sister property on the river in front of the hotel.
A complimentary boat shuttle runs to the Skytrain stations and public ferries and there's a small mall with a bank, clothes shops and some restaurants on the first three floors of the building.
The rooms here are sleek, modern and comfortable but have little in the way of Thai style or character. The decor is elegant in an international business-like style with pale neutrals and contemporary furnishings. Large windows overlook the river and sliding doors lead to bright, well-equipped bathrooms. Standard rooms have a rain shower, while junior suites and above also have a bath. All rooms feature air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi and minibar.
The hotel is set on the Chao Phraya River away from central Bangkok. A tuk-tuk to the nearest Skytrain station takes about 15 minutes. Alternatively, guests can use the complimentary Anantara boat shuttle to Central Pier to connect with the Skytrain or public ferries. The boat journey takes 20 minutes and runs every 20 minutes. Bangkok's Asiatique night market and entertainment area is across the river about a 10 minute drive away. A longtail boat to the Royal Palace and Wat Po area takes around 25 minutes.
The hotel has four restaurants and bars with breakfast, lunch and dinner served in the Skyline restaurant on the 11th floor. The buffet breakfast offers a good selection of hot and cold dishes while later in the day the menu features Thai specialities as well as international dishes. For something lighter the Pantry is a deli-style eatery offering a selection of salads and sandwiches. Next door is the Long Bar which serves tapas and cocktails, while the Attitude Rooftop Bar and Restaurant on the 26th floor offers Asian tapas and fusion-style fine dining. It has indoor and outdoor tables, an open kitchen and resident DJ.
Connecting rooms are available and babysitting can be arranged.
The hotel's 25 m (82 ft) rooftop infinity pool offers glorious views of the city and is a highlight of the property. Yoga classes are offered on the deck beside the pool and there's a large gym with personal trainers available. The hotel also has a small spa with just two treatment rooms but a wide range of therapies on offer.
While the AVANI is not located directly on the banks of the river, it offers sweeping views and represents great value for money with a large selection of dining options and a thrilling rooftop infinity pool.
