Fusion Maia

A spa resort with contemporary design and a holistic approach to relaxation, Fusion Maia encourages guests to slow down and savour an unhurried pace of life. Set on a quiet beach, it makes a tranquil base for visits to historic Hoi An.

Fusion Maia has a laid-back atmosphere and offers daily yoga and meditation sessions, beach walks and two complimentary spa treatments on each day of your stay. The spa here is simply superb and is set in lush tropical gardens surrounding a feature waterfall. Dining is relaxed with Asian inspired tapas in the lounge, light meals by the pool or fine dining in the main restaurant with its show kitchen. Not wanting to disturb a good night's sleep, breakfast is available at any time in any place. With a gorgeous infinity pool overlooking the beach, there really isn't much need to go elsewhere but nearby Hoi An, a charming riverside town and UNESCO World Heritage Site, is not to be missed. The hotel provides a free shuttle to Hoi An and has its own cafe in town which provides a handy and secure base from which to explore, on foot or by bike.

The 87 villas here represent good value and have a simple design with dark woods and bamboo details and a very restful but luxurious air. Each has its own private pool and courtyard garden making this a wonderfully intimate escape.

Fusion Maia

Description

Set on a long arc of golden sand, Fusion Maia is a beach hotel with a focus on wellbeing. You’ll be encouraged to slow down and relax with yoga, meditation and spa treatments in a tranquil environment. The contemporary, minimalistic design and the surrounding tropical gardens add to the serene ambiance.

Each of the 87 villas has its own private pool and courtyard garden, creating an intimate space for couples and honeymooners. Guests can enjoy a minimum of two complimentary spa treatments daily and the resort offers a number of daily activities aimed to increase guests’ feelings of relaxation and well-being.

The resort is also well located for those who like to explore and discover fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

For families

Families are welcome at Fusion Maia and the resort offers complimentary children’s activities for children under 12 years every afternoon. In addition, the spa offers child-friendly treatments at the Mini Maia Spa.

Children are welcome at the main pool, but please note that the spa pool is adults-only.

Surrounded by mature, tropical gardens, Fusion Maia is on the flaxen sand of My Khe Beach a 20-minute drive from Da Nang, a French-colonial port town.

Although it feels relatively secluded, you can see other resorts from the beach and the town of Da Nang in the distance.

The town of Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is only 30 minutes’ drive away and the resort offers a free shuttle to guests to its café in Hoi An. My Son’s Cham temples are also within reach for a day trip. It’s also just 20 minutes from the airport.

Our opinion

The expansive pool villas and complimentary spa treatments make Fusion Maia not only a great choice for a relaxing holiday but excellent value. While the resort is an ideal place to unwind, there are plenty of options nearby for those who would like to explore more, including some of Vietnam’s most famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Please note that there is neighbouring construction work that started in October 2016 and is scheduled for completion within 18-24 months of that start date.

Rooms

The resort features 87 villas, each designed to create a restful ambience with pastel colours and minimal design. With a separate lounge, walled-courtyard and private pool there’s plenty of space and the bamboo detailing and polished dark-wood furniture is a nod to more traditional Vietnamese design. All feature flat screen televisions, preloaded iPod and docking stations, Wi-Fi, coffee machine and rain showers.

Beach Villa

The three beach villas are an extremely spacious 403 sq m (4,337 sq ft). Each features a garden with a large pool that’s enclosed with a hedge to give some privacy — but you can still see the ocean. Inside, there is a kitchenette with separate living area and dining space. Two of them have three bedrooms with one king bedroom and two twin bedrooms; the third has two king bedrooms. Each bedroom has ensuite facilities.

Spa Villa

The two bedroom spa villas are 212 sq m (2,281 sq ft) with a private courtyard garden, loungers and a pool, as well as direct access to the resort’s spa area. There is a small kitchenette within the villa with a coffee machine and mini bar, a large dining area and lounge. The master bedroom features a king bed and the second has twin beds — an excellent choice for families.

Pool Villa

Each pool villa is a spacious 100 sq m (1,076 sq ft) and has its own private garden courtyard with sitting area, loungers and plunge pool. Inside they are open plan with a bedroom featuring either a king or twin beds and a living area opening out onto the outdoor space overlooking the pool.

Activities, diving & excursions

Relaxation and wellbeing are a key focus at the resort and the hotel offers a Natural Living programme with a range of complimentary daily activities including yoga, tai chi, fitness classes and meditation.

There are two pools at the hotel as well as a fitness centre, complimentary, non-motorised water sports and two golf courses nearby. Vietnamese cooking classes are also available if you would like to learn to recreate some of Vietnam's speciality dishes yourself.

A film is shown each night in the mini cinema and there’s a boutique that showcases local artisanal products — their Maia clothing collection is tailor-made in Hoi An to fit your measurements.

Please take care when swimming in the sea as currents can be strong on this coast and there may not be lifeguards or a red flag system in operation.

For those wishing to explore the local area the resort offers a free shuttle to its Fusion Café restaurant in Hoi An where guests can explore on complimentary bicycles.

Although there is no dive centre at the hotel, local operators are able to provide trips to nearby dive sites.

Food & drink

Five is a contemporary restaurant named after the resort’s ‘five elements’ food philosophy. Open for breakfast and dinner, it focuses on fresh, local ingredients. Serving traditional Vietnamese specialities and modern fusion dishes, there’s an emphasis on healthy, nourishing food.

Fresh is a more casual, poolside venue with a Mediterranean influence serving light meals, salads, sandwiches and pasta. We highly recommend the seafood grill, where the catch of the day is grilled to order.

The Tonic Lounge offers cocktails along with Vietnamese inspired tapas. In the evening there is often a resident DJ playing gentle lounge music. There’s also a buffet and grill evening on the beach each week.

The resort also features a “breakfast anywhere, anytime” concept where you can enjoy breakfast wherever you like and at a time that suits you. You can even choose to have breakfast at their Fusion Cafe in Hoi An if you like. If you’re like breakfast on the beach, which is very popular, we recommend booking this in advance.

Spa Facilities

The extensive spa at Fusion Maia is set amongst tropical gardens, with a separate, adults-only spa pool that’s fed by a waterfall. Guests enjoy at least two complimentary spa treatments a day – more treatments are possible subject to availability.

With 16 treatment rooms and 70 staff, the spa offers a wide range of treatments from massages and facials to Reiki healing and crystal therapy. Facilities also include steam rooms, saunas, private Jacuzzis, a yoga studio and two beauty salons. Many of the ingredients for the spa products are grown on-site and created in the in-house apothecary.

We recommend arranging your treatment times ahead to ensure the times and treatments you prefer when the hotel is busy.

Singapore

Location: Singapore

During the 14th century, Singapore flourished as a trading post with Chinese junks, Indian vessels, Arab dhows and Portuguese battleships frequenting its shores. Today Singapore is a predominantly Chinese society, with Malays, Indians and Europeans adding to the ethnic mix and the scene is one of shimmering skyscrapers and busy streets.

The influx of different cultures has made Singapore the culinary capital of Asia, with an incredible array of dishes and styles on offer. Sample the variety as you explore Chinatown and Little India, eating at hawker stalls or fine restaurants. After dark, take a dinner cruise, visit the theatre or stroll down to Robertson, Boat or Clarke Quay with its riverside restaurants, bars and clubs. New developments around the marina bay area are opening constantly and this has created a real buzz about Singapore.
