A lot of us travel for a break from our everyday lives, and there's no better way to forget your problems and unplug than travelling somewhere truly remote and off the beaten path. From lodges perched atop rice paddy terraces to luxurious cabins set among the wildlife in the rainforest, we've rounded up some of the best off the grid accommodation.

In the middle of a verdant rainforest, just an hour outside of Puerto Jimenez, the luxury accommodation properties El Remanso Rainforest Wildlife Lodge and Lapa Rios continue to impress travellers. On the southernmost tip of the Osa Peninsula, Lapa Rios is built 100 metres above the sea, and sits among the surrounding tropical dry forest. A stay at either of these properties will offer a luxurious and removed experience.
