Amazon Lodge, Amazon Rainforest, Brazil
The Amazon Eco Lodge is a simple property, located about 80km (50 miles) from Manaus in a private nature reserve with primary rainforest. This lodge has an excellent location deep in the jungle. It is a floating lodge sitting on the River Juma, which due to its higher acidity levels means there are few mosquitoes, and since it's a floating lodge, fewer insects generally.
This lodge is fairly basic in terms of accommodation. Ten rooms have en-suite bathrooms, and eight use the shared bathrooms. The showers are cold, although in the heat of the Amazon the temperature will be perfect! There is a bar in the central area with hammocks and seating, and a restaurant upstairs where delicious local dishes are served buffet style. There are some fascinating excursions to be done from here, including visiting a local family to see how they live and learn about life in the Amazon, Caiman spotting at night, piranha fishing, walking in the jungle, and swimming in the river. You may also get the opportunity to have a BBQ in the jungle with freshly caught fish.
