Rooms

The four spacious suites have each been designed to blend Caribbean influence with Georgian history while applying a modern twist. Each room has air conditioning and Wi-Fi.

Situated within the manor house, each room has been charmingly decorated with original furnishings and quaint detailing. Two en suite rooms are located upstairs. The Royal Suite overlooks the gardens, it features original fitted wardrobes and a large ceiling chandelier. The French Suite takes its name from the French iron four poster bed and has a balcony overlooking the Chinese garden.

The largest of the rooms is The Dukes Suite with a mahogany four poster bed and antique decor. The final room, The Pineapple Suite comprises one small double and two single beds. Located on the ground floor, both rooms have their own private adjacent bathrooms.

Location

Nestled within 26 acres of estate on the northeast side of Antigua, The Great House is in a secluded location hidden by an array of palm and mahogany trees. Positioned upon the hillside, many of the hotel's rooms overlook Mercers Bay Creek. It provides a cool sanctuary from the warm sunshine with commanding views over Mercers Creek Bay and Guiana Island.

Betty's Hope sugarcane plantation and Devil's Bridge are both roughly 15 minutes’ drive away. The international airport is a 40 minutes’ drive.

Food and drink

All meals are included within your stay at The Great House. Meals can be prepared to suit your preference and arranged to fit within your personalized schedule. Much of the ingredients used are harvested from the grounds or sourced locally.

Served under the canopy overlooking the pool, breakfast is an assortment of fresh local fruits, cereals and toast with eggs upon request. Lunch is served as a mixture of hot meals and salads consisting of healthy and local cuisine. A set menu dinner is served in the manor's candlelit drawing room.

Facilities and activities

The resort focuses on health, wellness and relaxation, offering two classes daily including; yoga, stretch, meditation, dance or boot-camp style sessions. You can request your schedule ahead of stay to make the most of the classes on offer.

The team at The Great House is on hand to help arrange any additional tours of the island, private trips and walks. The retreat also has a pool and a small spa for treatments.

Environmental and social responsibility

The retreat focuses on promoting responsible tourism, with many of their staff and practitioners local to the area. They train garden, kitchen and cooking staff in-house and the majority of their seasonal products used in cooking are grown on the island or the Great House gardens.
