This tranquil bed and breakfast dates back to 1867 and has been passed down five generations of the same family since the 1930s. The current owners, Cathy and Colin Fowler, have lovingly refurbished their home while decorating the interior with antiques and family heirlooms that hark back to the building’s long and interesting history.

Set in a leafy garden, the property has a wooden clapboard exterior painted in a neutral tone, with a small set of steps leading up to the front door. Inside are just three spacious guest rooms, as well as a welcoming dining room and lounge area with laminated wooden floors and sofas set beside a fireplace. Sash windows let in plenty of natural light, and there's a furnished outdoor deck dotted with potted plants where you can sit with a drink after exploring the area.

Rooms

The property offers three rooms, each decorated with their own individual style and antiques. The Main Floor Room is the best option for those who are less mobile, offering plenty of space and a choice of a king bed or two twin beds, as well as a full en suite bathroom with jet-air bath tub. Upstairs, the Rose Room and the Oak Leaf Room have cathedral ceilings and skylights that give them a light and airy feel. Both feature a queen bed, en suite bathroom, table and chairs, an electric fireplace and a TV. Wi-Fi is complimentary throughout the house.

Location

This bed and breakfast is located just two blocks away from the high street of Niagara-on-the-Lake, situated on a quiet residential street. It's easy to stroll into town on foot, though there's also free parking available should you have your own car with you and want to explore the area's renowned wineries. The falls themselves are just a half-hour drive away.

Food and Drink

A full hot breakfast is served every morning and includes homemade muffins, fruit, and a hot entrée. The Fowlers will happily cater for special dietary requirements if requested in advance. For lunch and dinner, a huge range of restaurants, cafes and bars are located a short walk away in the main town.

Facilities and Activities

Should you wish to explore the area, including Niagara's various wineries, by bicycle, you can rent one for $5 per stay. Out on the terrace you can enjoy a soak in the property's hot tub after a day of exploring.

Our opinion

Colin and Cathy truly put their hearts into this property, and we love the history and sentimentality behind the house, which has been in Colin's family for generations. We particularly like that the Fowlers have their own garden in town, where they grow flowers to decorate the property's interiors.
