Located on the shores of the Baie des Ha Ha, in the heart of the town of La Baie, the Auberge des 21 is named after the 21 original settlers who founded La Baie in 1838. Its 31 comfortable rooms have either a view of Saguenay Fjord or a garden view.
The inn is renowned locally for the quality of its restaurant and booking in advance is advised. Preference is given to local produce, especially little-known wild, edible plants, such as bulrush, cranberry bush, cloudberry, wild violet and mayflower, to create a modern cuisine that’s inspired by local traditions and Amerindian recipes.
The location of this hotel on the edge of Saguenay Fjord and the quality of the food in the restaurant make this, in our opinion, the nicest place to stay in La Baie.

Rooms
Regular rooms have double beds. Intermediate rooms have one or two beds (and can accommodate two to four people), while luxury rooms have one double bed and are very spacious. Executive rooms are larger still, with roomy bathrooms and a sitting area. All rooms have Wi-Fi, phones, a TV, a mini fridge, hair dryers, coffee-making facilities, and bathrobes. Rooms either have views over the inn’s garden or over the Baie des Ha Ha. All rooms are non-smoking.
Location
Located in the town of La Baie, the hotel’s within walking distance of a handful of good restaurants and bistros. There’s also a pleasant walk along the water from the hotel toward the cruise ship dock. La Baie is, however, a fairly sleepy town, and nearby Saguenay (just over a 20-minute drive away) has more shops and restaurants.
Food and drink
The head chef of the hotel’s restaurant, Le Doyen, is also the hotel’s manager, and he likes to use Québécois classics in his cooking, such as smoked salmon and maple beurre blanc. Breakfast is served from 7am to 9:30am Monday to Friday and from 7:30am to 9:30am on weekends, while dinner is served most nights between 6pm and 9pm. The restaurant is also open for lunch.
Facilities and activities
The hotel’s spa, ‘Parfum de Fjord’, offers a range of treatments, including massages, reflexology, exfoliation, mud wraps, facials and waxing. There are also hot tubs available for guests’ use.
Accessibility
The inn has some rooms on the ground floor with a terrace that’s accessible from the car park and the restaurant.
