OUR OPINION:

Sonora offers a high-quality wilderness experience with a great range of activities. The wildlife spotting opportunities are immense and the surroundings are beautiful. The all-inclusive and secluded nature of the resort makes it an ideal place to spend a few days.

Rooms

This resort offers Audley guests two choices of accommodation; rooms and suites. Rooms sleep up to two guests with a queen or king sized bed and ocean view, and suites have two king en suite bedrooms plus a spacious living room — one suite even has a poker table and another a private hot tub.

Your stay includes all meals and drinks (including most wine, beer and spirits), Wi-Fi connection, worldwide calls and the use of all amenities, both indoor and outdoor.

Location

Sonora Resort is located on Sonora Island, located between Vancouver Island and the mainland — and reaching it is an adventure in itself. A helicopter or seaplane ride from Vancouver will get you to this private resort in just 50 minutes, and other transport options are available from Tofino, Whistler and Campbell River.

Food and drink

Sonora has one sea-facing restaurant, offering a spectacular backdrop for every dining experience, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner.

In the evening enjoy à la carte dining or try the chef’s seasonal tasting menu which changes every day. Each dish on the four-course menu is paired with the best regional and international wines from the resort’s enviable wine cellar. Please note that a supplement applies for this experience.

Families

Multi-room suites suit families of up to four. Many activities and amenities can be enjoyed by adults and children alike, including archery, water sports and the indoor cinema. There is also an outdoor playground. The rooms include stocked mini-fridges with snacks — which prove popular with younger visitors.

Facilities and activities

Sonora Resort offers a wealth of things to see and do during your stay. Indoor amenities include a tennis court, virtual golf, games room, cinema and conservatory, and outdoors you can enjoy a swimming pool, putting green, fly-fishing ponds and lots of water sports. Make sure you visit Story Pointe, a quiet outdoor area with a fire pit, and enjoy a hot drink under the stars.

Environmental and social responsibility

Sonora Resort works hard to maintain green credentials on everything from water to waste. The resort’s location means they’re able to offer a number of educational tours of the area, discussing wildlife, ecology and the history of Sonora Island. They also enforce regulations for responsible fishing as one of the most salmon-rich locations in the country.
