Experience the tides, whales and seabirds of the Bay of Fundy with a local captain on a small boat.
The Bay of Fundy is home to the highest tides in the world along with plenty of marine life. The bay has been compared in marine biodiversity to the Amazon Rainforest, and is known globally for its ecology, geology, tidal energy currents, and habitats. One of the best ways to see the tides and marine life, is by taking a boat tour, with the best chances of spotting whales and seabirds.
The two-and-a-half-hour tour begins in Saint Andrews by-the-Sea, where you’ll board you semi-covered small boat. You’ll then head out into the bay, following the captain to where whales have been sighted. These waters provide a summer feeding ground for the endangered North Atlantic right whale, among 12 other species of whales, dolphins, and countless birds, which you’ll be on the look-out for on your journey.
Your captain is a local who grew up fishing in these waters and you’ll also have a marine biologist on board to give expert commentary on the region's culture, history and wildlife. On the way, you'll experience a herring weir demonstration with hands-on tools, and cruise past a floating fish farm. The tour takes place from a 14 m (45 ft) vessel custom built for whale watching with 360-degree views from two decks.
