Experience the ethereal glow of bioluminescence in the peaceful waters of Sechelt Inlet, navigating by kayak.
This kayak tour takes you into the magical nocturnal world of the Sunshine Coast. Paddle into the nighttime to learn about one of the largest daily mass migrations in the world. As you navigate the warm waters of Sechelt Inlet, you will begin to notice bright green lights appearing in the ripples made by your paddle.
The tour begins with a 90 minute talk from your local guides about the earth and the importance of having a positive impact on the environment. You will then have basic kayak instruction before taking to the water and paddling out for about an hour and a half. As you paddle through the water, the bioluminescent glow awakens the waters and creates eerie effects in the wake of your kayak.
If you’re lucky, you may spot seals passing beneath your kayaks, with the green glow surrounding them making them look like sea ghosts, and fish that look like shooting stars. Your guides will encourage quiet so that all you can hear is the gentle lap of water, allowing you to more deeply experience the other-worldly glow.
Your departure time from Egmont will depend on the time of sunset, as you need to be in the full dark to truly appreciate this phenomenon. Likewise, the moonlight affects your journey, and your guides will take you to a more protected bay where the light is less intense when the moon is too bright. The total tour time is about three to three and a half hours.
