Château La Chenevière

Château La Chenevière

Normandy, France

Situated in the heart of Normandy and set in vast grounds littered with exotic trees, Château La Chenevière is an 18th-century mansion that exudes historic charm. It successfully combines period grandeur with an intimate atmosphere and makes an appealing base for exploring the Normandy countryside, the D-Day beaches and nearby historic Bayeux. Alternatively, you can stroll through the grounds, the rose garden or walled garden, swim in the secluded pool or play a game of tennis.

Throughout the hotel, the decor is elegantly refined, matching the building's grand proportions with understated contemporary luxuries. The spacious, soft-hued rooms are classically-designed, featuring wood-panel walls and original fireplaces as well as modern amenities such as Wi-Fi. Service is impeccable throughout, while the hotel's gourmet restaurant is highly regarded and worth a visit in its own right.

We love this hotel for its quiet location on the Normandy coast, the novel experience of staying in a chateau, and its close proximity to Bayeux and the D-Day beaches.

Château La Chenevière prides itself on combining classic style and sophistication with all the amenities of a five-star property. The rooms are individually decorated in an understated but elegantly refined manner, with pastel hues and a combination of traditional features and contemporary fabrics, minimal clutter and fresh flowers. Complimentary Wi-Fi, safes, minibars, bathrobes and slippers come as standard. Some of the higher category rooms contain Jacuzzi bathtubs, seating areas and large closets.

Located in the countryside of Normandy with views of the surrounding farms and hillsides, Château La Chenevière is about a 15-minute drive from central Bayeux, and 20 minutes from its train station, which is a gateway to the rest of France. The property is ideally situated for exploring the D-Day beaches and is only about a 20-minute drive from Omaha Beach, while Utah Beach is 45 minutes away.

Food and drink

Breakfast consists of an array of hot and cold items such as fresh juices, coffee, tea, cheeses, meats, eggs, pastries and the property’s homemade honey. A ‘pop up’ restaurant also serves lunch on the property from late-spring to September, but the real gem is the gourmet dinner restaurant, The Botanist. Here, the focus is on local seasonal ingredients which are crafted into two prix-fixe (set price) menus, with amuse-bouches served between each course.

A shallow children’s pool is attached to the main pool.

Facilities and activities

During your stay, you can make use of a heated outdoor pool, complimentary bicycles, a small gym and a spa. Outside there are multiple seating areas, as well as a tennis court and a vegetable garden that provides some of the food for the property’s restaurants.

The hotel itself is wheelchair accessible but is surrounded by a gravel walkway and patio which could cause some difficulty for those with reduced mobility.
