Sitting pretty, right behind the sleek, contemporary architecture of the Acropolis Museum in the Koukaki district of Athens, Herodion Hotel revels in its wonderfully convenient location and accompanying views of the Acropolis and Parthenon.
You enter the hotel lobby from a quiet street. This leads to the lounge, one of the hotel’s carefully thought-out public spaces, furnished with plush sofas and dark-wood furniture. Greek olive trees grow out on the sunny roof terrace, where you have a choice of two Jacuzzis and the backdrop of the Acropolis. The Herodion’s rooftop restaurant and bar offers unrivalled views and is open throughout the summer. The atrium bistro serves more casual Greek cuisine on the ground floor, its glass walls and ceiling look out onto the leafy trees and vines behind the hotel.
The 90 rooms are snug but comfortable. Junior suites and superior rooms give you a bit more space, and some rooms have balconies and look onto the Acropolis. All the rooms are decorated with modern furnishings and fitted with marble bathrooms.
If you’re in Athens to explore the ancient sites, Herodion’s location at the base of the Acropolis is a major draw. We also loved the views from the roof terrace and restaurant, as well as the friendly service.
