Herodion Hotel

Herodion Hotel

Athens, Greece

Sitting pretty, right behind the sleek, contemporary architecture of the Acropolis Museum in the Koukaki district of Athens, Herodion Hotel revels in its wonderfully convenient location and accompanying views of the Acropolis and Parthenon.

You enter the hotel lobby from a quiet street. This leads to the lounge, one of the hotel’s carefully thought-out public spaces, furnished with plush sofas and dark-wood furniture. Greek olive trees grow out on the sunny roof terrace, where you have a choice of two Jacuzzis and the backdrop of the Acropolis. The Herodion’s rooftop restaurant and bar offers unrivalled views and is open throughout the summer. The atrium bistro serves more casual Greek cuisine on the ground floor, its glass walls and ceiling look out onto the leafy trees and vines behind the hotel.

The 90 rooms are snug but comfortable. Junior suites and superior rooms give you a bit more space, and some rooms have balconies and look onto the Acropolis. All the rooms are decorated with modern furnishings and fitted with marble bathrooms.

If you’re in Athens to explore the ancient sites, Herodion’s location at the base of the Acropolis is a major draw. We also loved the views from the roof terrace and restaurant, as well as the friendly service.

The 90 rooms are small but ample and all decorated in a similar style, with grey and beige tones accented with terracotta and pale parquet flooring. Certain rooms have a balcony with a small table and chairs, so you can sit out in the Greek sunshine. Some also give you views of the nearby Parthenon. The rooms’ modern facilities include a marble bathroom.

Herodion Hotel is well positioned in the Koukaki district of Athens, standing almost directly behind the Acropolis Museum and very close to many of the top historical sights of the city. The leafy, pedestrian Dionysiou Areopagitou street is a two-minute walk away.

Food and drink

The rooftop restaurant and bar offers modern Greek cuisine against views of the Acropolis and opens throughout the summer. The ground-floor Atrium Greek Bistrot sources local, seasonal ingredients for its menu of signature Greek dishes, its glass walls and ceiling looking out onto a leafy green space behind the hotel. A buffet breakfast is also served on the ground floor.

Facilities and activities

A roof terrace shaded by olive trees gives you a place to take in the views of the Acropolis and relax in one of the two Jacuzzis.
