Day 1 Québec City
On arrival in Québec City, make your own way from the airport to the city's historic Old Town, where you'll stay this evening.
Day 2 Baie St Paul
Québec City , Baie St Paul
You will have some time to enjoy a leisurely breakfast at one of Québec's charming cafés, before journeying north into the countryside. Make your own way to the car hire depot, where your car (an intermediate 4X4) will be ready to collect. All insurances, road maps and a sat-nav are included. From here, drive north out of Québec's suburbs and into the rolling hills of Charlevoix, to the charming town of Baie St Paul, on the northern shore of the Saint Lawrence River. You will have some time at leisure this afternoon to stroll through the town, taking in its wide array of art galleries and artisan food producers.
Day 3 Baie St Paul
Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie National Park , Baie St Paul
Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie National Park is your focus for the day. This splendid national park is located an hour away from Baie St Paul and is one of the region's scenic highlights. On arrival in the park, join one of the park's rangers for a privately guided two hour interpretive hike. Your expert guide will explain more about the park's natural history, including how the park's magnificent canyon was carved into being by prehistoric glaciers. You'll have some free time this afternoon to explore Hautes-Gorges' walking trails including, if you wish, summiting L'Acropole: the park's tallest peak.
Day 4 Baie St Paul
Baie St Paul
Enjoy a full day at leisure in Grands-Jardins National Park: another scenic gem in the Charlevoix region. The most popular trail here is to Mont-du-Lac-Cygnes, where hikers will be rewarded with magnificent views of the Charlevoix crater, and the leafy valley below.
Day 5 Tadoussac
Baie St Paul , Tadoussac
Today you leave Charlevoix behind as you travel north towards the mighty Saguenay Fjord. Your destination is Tadoussac: a small town located at the confluence of the Saguenay and Saint Lawrence rivers - and is well known as one of Canada's best whale watching destinations.
Day 6 Tadoussac
Spend your morning viewing humpback, beluga and minke whale on a three hour tour from Tadoussac. This afternoon, drive to nearby Saguenay Fjords National Park for your first glimpse of Québec's vast fjord, which stretches 100km (62 miles) inland from Tadoussac to the city of Saguenay. Spend some time exploring the park's walking trails and viewpoints and, if you're lucky, view beluga whales from the park's shoreline.
Day 7 Sainte-Rose-du-Nord
Tadoussac , Sainte-Rose-du-Nord
Your drive today is just over an hour to the pretty village of Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, known locally as the 'Pearl of the Fjord'. You'll spend tonight just outside of the village at Cap au Leste - a cosy wilderness lodge that takes in astounding views of the Saguenay Fjord from its prime cliff top position. You'll have some time to enjoy activities at the lodge this afternoon, including walking, canoeing or dog sledding (available at additional cost).
Day 8 Sainte-Rose-du-Nord
Visit the southern sector of Saguenay Fjords National Park and admire some of the region's most impressive scenery. After a short drive to Sainte-Rose-du-Nord village, take the foot ferry across the fjord to the national park. The cliffs in this region of the park are higher and views more spectacular - best admired from one of the walking trails. You'll have four hours here to enjoy the magnificent scenery, before returning by ferry to Sainte-Rose-du-Nord.
Day 9 Québec City
Sainte-Rose-du-Nord , Québec City
Depart Saguenay and venture into Québec's wilderness interior, passing forested mountains and remote lakes and rivers. En route, you will pass Jacques-Cartier National Park, where you may wish to spending some time exploring at leisure. From here, continue to the First Nations village of Wendake, located in Québec City's northern suburbs. This evening, enjoy a traditional Myths and Legends storytelling experience by campfire in your hotel's reconstructed Long House, before a delicious dinner, featuring First Nations-inspired cuisine. You also have admission included to the property's excellent museum, which details the history and culture of the local Wendat First Nations.
- Hôtel-Musée Premières Nations
Day 10 Québec City
Drive the short distance to downtown Québec City, where you'll return your hire car this morning. You'll then have the rest of the day at leisure to explore Québec's charming provincial capital under your own steam.
