Tsarabanjina is a private tropical island, with only one property, the Constance Tsarabanjina. The centre of the island is covered in lush vegetation with palm, casuarina and badamier trees. Frigate birds soar overhead and at night you find hermit crabs scuttling through the undergrowth.
The island is 10,000 square metres on which sandy paths weave in and out of the shady trees. There are four beaches, all with white sand littered with shells and invariably clear and turquoise water. In the evening the sunsets are spectacular, particularly from the top of the small cliff above the dining room.
There are 13 bungalows on the north beach and 12 on the south. The dining room and bar are situated at the back of a small cove and are open to one side giving lovely sea views.

Photos of Constance Tsarabanjina
Tsarabanjina is an idyllic place to relax. You will find that Tsarabanjina has a strong relationship with the Italian market and we have found some of the menus to be in both English and Italian. This is a fabulous resort perfect either for a spot of relaxation after exploring Madagascar or for a purely beach holiday to enjoy relaxing seclusion and a beautiful location.
The 25 bungalows are named after local trees, fish or flowers and are located on either the north or the south beach. Each bungalow is set at the back of the beach, under the shade of trees. They are built out of rosewood and thatch and stand on raised platforms which form a private veranda with comfortable chairs. Inside there is a main bedroom with double or twin beds, mosquito nets, ceiling fans, minibar and desk. The en suite bathrooms have hot showers. Sun loungers and a parasol adorn the beach in front of each room.
Set on the north west coast of Madagascar, in the Mitsio Archipelago, Tsarabanjina is a peaceful tropical island. Two beautiful beaches border the island to the north and south offering fine white sand scattered with shells and fringed with clear, turquoise waters and a coral reef offshore. The island is accessible by light aircraft, helicopter or boat from nearby Nosy Be Island.
Constance Tsarabanjina operates on a different time zone to the rest of Madagascar and is one hour ahead. This is to make full use of the daylight on the island.
Food and drink
Set on its own small beach cove, the restaurant is built from the same rosewood as the villas and offers a relaxed atmosphere and excellent ocean views. There are good breakfasts, buffet lunches with lots of choice and à la carte dining for the evening. The local seafood is superb, but a good range of other dishes is also available. The food is mainly French and international cuisine.
Children over the age of four are welcome at Tsarabanjina. There are no specific children's facilities but older children that are happy to explore the island and enjoy the snorkelling will have a good stay.
Facilities and activities
There are many activities available from the lodge. Included in the cost of a stay are snorkelling, waterskiing, sailing and kayaking. The resort also has an 'animation' programme which is luckily very low-key and consists usually of aqua-gym in the sea and boules competitions. Available for an extra cost are fishing, diving and massages in the tiny spa.
Environmental and social responsibility
A gold member of the Green Globe certification, Constance operates eight hotels across the Indian Ocean and is committed to being as sustainable as possible. Conservation, cultural preservation and community development are at the forefront of Constance’s operations, and by staying at a Constance property, guests are directly feeding back into these practices.
