Itinerary idea in detail

Includes international flights from a choice of UK airports, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

  • Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Lilongwe.

  • On arrival at Lilongwe Airport, you'll be met by your driver who will take you to your guesthouse in Lilongwe for the night.

  • You'll leave Lilongwe today and enjoy a wonderful drive taking in the varied landscapes of rural Malawi. Following the course of the Shire River, you'll enter the Liwonde National Park. From here, things become gradually more wild and remote before you arrive at the Mvuu Camp for your three-night stay.

  • A full day to enjoy the wildlife viewing on offer from Mvuu Camp. In the national park, you'll see hippos, elephants, impalas, and crocodiles, plus wonderful birdlife and less common mammals such as the warthog.

  • Another packed day of safari activities from Mvuu Camp. There’s a protected area of the national park where black rhinos have been introduced. Another undoubted highlight is taking a river cruise on the Shire River, offering a different perspective from which to view excellent wildlife.

  • You'll leave Liwonde today as you drive to Cape Maclear, a lovely journey that takes you through rural Malawi. Once at the lake shore, you'll stay at Norman Carr Cottage for the next three nights.

  • There are a number of water sports you can participate in at Norman Carr Cottage, including snorkeling, canoeing and waterskiing.

  • In the morning, you'll be driven to Cape Maclear boat jetty. Here you can choose to either kayak for around an hour or enjoy a short boat transfer to Mumbo Island. On this gorgeous, unspoiled island, you'll spend three nights in a comfortable en suite tent.

  • On Mumbo Island, you are provided with your own kayak and snorkeling equipment. Lake Malawi is at its beautiful best here; you can spend the day swimming, paddling, and looking for some of the many species of brilliant-coloured fish.

  • Another day to enjoy the peace and serenity of Mumbo Island.

  • Today you'll take a short boat transfer back to the mainland and then travel on to Lilongwe for your international flight home. Your return flight will arrive the same day.
