Stay at Huab Lodge, Damaraland
Huab is somewhere to go for a few days and relax. The bungalows are very comfortable, food good and activities gentle and enjoyable. We recommend it for a stay of at least two nights.
Huab Lodge, Damaraland, Namibia
Huab Lodge is owned and managed by the delightful Jan and Suzi.
It originated a number of years ago when Jan bought a number of adjacent farms around the Huab River. The previous farmers had been experiencing problems with the resident desert-adapted elephant and tension was growing on both sides. They then sold up to Jan and Suzi who took down all the fences, re-introduced antelope and are letting the land revert to its original state. Once again the elephant can roam again as they please and things are returning to normal. Well almost. There have been occasions when baby elephants have taken dips in the swimming pool and adults have turned on taps and left them running.
The lodge itself is situated beside the Huab River and is an absolute delight. There are eight huge stone and thatch bungalows, each of which has two queen sized beds, a large veranda and sparkling en-suite bathroom. The main lodge has a large dining room where superb meals are served and a pool outside with views of the dry river bed.
The guiding at Huab is top class. Jan is one of Namibia's top guides and walks and drives with him are superb, his enthusiasm for his surroundings and birdlife will soon wear off on you. Finally, the lodge offers a variety of wellness treatments and there is a lovely natural thermal bath that you can relax in during the day, or gaze at the stars from at night.
