Blending beautifully between the boulders, Camp Kipwe is totally enfolded into the landscape. The open, thatched dining area and comfortable lounge command stunning views over the Aba Huab Valley.
You can also ascend the 100 steps to the sundowner viewpoint, where you can watch the sun set over golden grasslands while sipping a cold drink. Not far from the front of camp runs a dry riverbed, which is frequently traversed by desert-adapted elephant.
OUR OPINION:
Camp Kipwe is one of our favourite options in this area, offering a great setting and a unique place to stay. The food here is excellent and the view from the sundowner viewpoint is breathtaking.

Rooms
The camp has just a handful Standard rooms in rounded bungalows, as well as Mini Suites, all with en suite outdoor bathrooms. Décor is simple, featuring neutral tones so as not to draw attention away from the stunning views surrounding the camp. Each bungalow is situated among the rocks, giving you exceptional privacy. Mini Suites include a separate lounge area, TV, minibar and large deck. Two of the bungalows are Family rooms, featuring a separate kids' tent outside.
Location
The camp is situated in the northwest of Namibia, in the heart of Damaraland, between the coast and Etosha National Park.
Food and drink
Meals are served in the open-plan dining area and are usually eaten communally, allowing you to socialise with your fellow guests.
Families
Children of all ages are welcome to stay at the camp, with families accommodated in Family rooms with separate children's tents.
Facilities and activities
Enjoy exploring the botany, wildlife and geology of the area. The fascinating ancient rock art at Twyfelfontein is nearby, and you can also enjoy nature drives to make the most of the rugged scenery and search for the desert-adapted elephant that inhabit this area. You could also visit the Damara Living Museum to understand more about the Damara people and their way of life. At the end of your day, take a refreshing dip in the small swimming pool at the camp, set in between the rocks.
Environmental and social responsibility
The camp works with several conservation organisations, as well as supporting the Desert Lion Project, with Camp Kipwe and its sister property, Mowani Mountain Camp, paying the salary of a game ranger. The waterhole at the camp has been expanded to provide a local elephant herd of 18 with enough water when they visit the lodge. A concession fee to the Uibasen/Twyfelfontein Conservancy is also included in the cost of your stay. In addition, the camp supports a number of community projects, including helping to transport doctors and nurses into Damaraland and assisting local communities in managing a shared vegetable garden by developing their skills in sustainability and crop rotation.
