Ruapehu Country Lodge, Tongariro National Park, New Zealand

Ideally situated just five minutes from Ohakune Township and 15 minutes from the gateway into the beautiful Tongariro National Park, Ruapehu Country Lodge offers the perfect escape for those who love the great outdoors. Whether you wish to get the adrenalin pumping or simply to relax in the tranquil surroundings, Ruapehu Lodge offers the best of both worlds. Nearby activities include kayaking, fishing, trekking, mountain biking and first class golfing. However, with just four spacious guest rooms boasting fantastic views across the golf course or mountain ranges it is also ideally set up for a private, peaceful or romantic getaway.

The well appointed rooms each feature a delightful terrace and are furnished in the style of a classic French country house. Vivienne, Geoff and Storm - the dog - will welcome you to the lodge, and as a golf 'pro', Geoff is happy to offer private tuition at the adjacent golf course where green fees and club hire costs are reduced for lodge guests. Also, on an informal basis, your hosts are willing to organise evening meals. As the property is quite isolated this is something that we would recommend.

Where possible, we like to offer a range of accommodation for each stop of your trip, chosen by our specialists as some of their favourite places to stay. To help you make the right choice, we give each property a rating based on its facilities and service, but we also look for hotels with distinct character or a location that can’t be bettered.

    Experiences while staying here

The following activities are designed to give you the most authentic experiences of the area where you’re staying. We work with local guides, who use their knowledge and often a resident’s eye to show you the main sights and more out-of-the-way attractions. Our specialists can also suggest outdoor pursuits and activities, such as cooking classes, that will introduce you to the traditions of the area’s inhabitants.
