Hotel Victoriano
Hotel Victoriano, San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
The Victoriano is a charming, small scale seaside hotel on the seafront in San Juan del Sur. The building is nicely finished in a Caribbean wooden clapboard style and has an air of nostalgia about it, harking back to the 19th century gold rush era when American migrants used Nicaragua and San Juan del Sur to reach California from the east coast instead of risking encounters with hostile Indians by crossing the interior.
A road runs between the hotel and the town's beach, but it is quiet and there are nice views of the bay. It has just 17 beautifully furnished standard rooms with cool tile floors and wooden blinds and four slightly larger suites which have sea views. Service is personalised and attentive and the restaurant has a good reputation and there are plenty of local places just a short walk down the seafront.
