Hospes Palacio del Bailío
Combining modern refinement with historic grandeur, the Hotel Hospes Palacio del Bailío provides an elegant place to stay in Córdoba. Set in a former 16th-century palace, you can still see the ruins of a Roman villa through the glass floor in the courtyard. The palace’s original grandeur is showcased in the grand marble lobby and corridors, though featuring subtle modern design elements such as quirky light fixtures.
The 53 rooms maintain the building’s historic nature — each is decorated with original stone fixtures or period art, while at the same time offering comfortable, modern furniture and large marble bathrooms. Beyond the rooms, you’ll find open patios that connect the three buildings of the hotel, offering relaxing places to sit and enjoy a drink, with one courtyard hosting a small pool and pretty garden space. There is also a small underground spa.
The hotel has two on-site dining options — a casual tapas bar and an elegant restaurant that serves a selection of tasting menus.
Though not the most centrally located, the hotel is about a 15 minute walk from La Mezquita.

An elegant and historic option, we find the Hospes Palacio del Bailío to be the ideal option for a refined stay. While a little further away from the main sights in the city, the level of service and beautiful surrounds of the hotel more than make up for this.
The uniquely appointed rooms evoke the original elegance of the palace, with touches like original exposed stonework in some rooms, or period paintings in others. Each room has a TV, air conditioning and complimentary Wi-Fi, as well as an en suite bathroom, some of which offer deep soaking tubs.
Located slightly outside of central Córdoba, the hotel is about a 15-minute walk from La Mezquita and a 25-minute walk to the Alcazar. A taxi ride to the Alcazar takes just under 15 minutes.
Food and drink
For an elegant, on-site option, Restaurante Arbequina serves typical Spanish cuisine as well as internationally inspired dishes, either from an à la carte menu or a tasting menu. There is also a more casual tapas restaurant in the vaulted basement that is popular among locals, as well as bar service in any of the patios. Breakfast is served in the central atrium, where there is a glass floor that lets you see the Roman ruins below.
Facilities and activities
The hotel’s indulgent spa offers an array of pampering and healing treatments, including targeted massages and beauty treatments. Just off of the spa, you can enter the remains of Roman baths and have a look around. The hotel also has a saltwater pool in its courtyard, which is lined with orange trees.
