Carved out from a mature coconut plantation and offering beautiful views of the Indian Ocean, the Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle is an extremely tranquil place. From the hotel's contemporary design to the highly polished service there's great attention to detail and guests are very well looked after. There's a good choice of dining options with Italian, Mediterranean, Sri Lankan and international cuisine and the chance to dine on a cliff edge, on the shoreline or by the pool. You can learn to cook local dishes on a Spice Spoons cookery course or join a tasting session in the wine cellar.
The hotel overlooks a secluded beach that offers good swimming, though there is also a wonderful 25 m (82 ft) pool, a spa and dedicated children's and teens' clubs. Take a trip to the nearby town of Tangalle for an insight into local life. It's a sleepy place with an old world charm and local restaurants serving fiery hot dishes.
