A small boutique hotel nestled in the old city of Sukhothai, capital of the first Thai kingdom, Tharaburi Resort is an intimate property with just 20 rooms. It's conveniently located close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers a tranquil base for exploring the surrounding area.

The hotel's design deftly combines traditional Thai elements such as carved woodwork, ornate window screens, hand-crafted furniture and gilded carvings with more contemporary Asian decor to create an impressive modern Thai style. The rooms are all individually decorated and vary considerably, some featuring a strong oriental influence, others a Zen-like simplicity. All feature modern amenities such as air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and DVD players.

The restaurant has a series of long wooden tables where guests can choose to eat alone or with other guests from the simple but authentic Thai menu. If you'd like you can also learn to cook some of the dishes from the chef. There's a small outdoor pool and the friendly and attentive staff can arrange cultural or cycling tours.

OUR OPINION:

Well located for exploring Sukhothai, Tharaburi has lots of character and a lively atmosphere. We love its contemporary Asian style and individually-decorated rooms.

Rooms

All the rooms at Tharaburi Resort are individually decorated in a contemporary Asian style with dark woods contrasting with the white linens and regional artworks such as large-scale Chinese calligraphy, intricately-carved woodwork, bright ceiling details or traditional tiling. There is also a traditional Thai teakwood house surrounded by tropical gardens available for guest use. All rooms feature complimentary Wi-Fi, air conditioning, DVD player and a balcony or terrace while many have secluded outdoor showers.

Location

Tharaburi Resort is located in a peaceful area of Sukhothai's old city just a five-minute tuk-tuk or taxi journey or 15-minute walk from the World Heritage Site, Sukhothai Historical Park, and the National Museum.

Food and drink

The Thara Bar restaurant is decorated in contemporary Thai style with long wooden tables and vibrant stained-glass windows that look out over the tropical gardens. The menu features a selection of simple but authentic Thai dishes.

Facilities and activities

Tharaburi Resort has a tranquil outdoor pool surrounded by tropical gardens and offers Thai cooking classes with a local chef as well as a range of Thai massages in the small spa. Local tours and cycling activities can also be arranged.
