Hacienda Termales La Quinta

Hacienda Termales La Quinta

Zona Cafetera, Colombia

This peaceful mountain hideaway offers guests a real taste of Colombian country life. Situated 30 km (18.5 miles) from Manizales, La Quinta feels a world away from modern city life. The property is set at an altitude of 2,500 m (8,202 ft) and has a dramatic backdrop of mountains and a gushing waterfall.

Built in a traditional style with whitewashed walls and a wooden veranda, the main house has just eight comfortable rooms, all bright and airy with white walls, splashes of red from the window frames, and polished wooden floors and ceilings. During your stay, you can take a dip in the thermal pool, which is fed by natural hot water springs and surrounded by greenery. Delicious home-cooked food is served, giving you energy to take part in traditional country pursuits such as horse riding and hiking along nature trails that wind through forests and mountains, uncovering hidden waterfalls. This is also a great spot for fishing in the Claro and Quebrada Negra rivers.

OUR OPINION:

This is a relaxing, well-maintained hacienda set in beautiful countryside. Staying here gives you the chance to take in the natural surroundings at your own pace, with some excellent horse riding and hiking trails nearby. We also love soaking in the thermal pool while listening to the sounds of nature.

Rooms

The hacienda has just eight rooms, providing an intimate stay. Each room is spacious but simple, and they're lovingly looked after by the staff. The white walls and red-framed windows allow for plenty of natural light, while the polished wooden floors and ceilings and framed photographs on the walls remind you of the property's heritage. They come with twin or double beds, an armoire, a small desk and seating, as well as a private bathroom.

Location

Located in the foothills of Los Nevados National Natural Park, about one hour from Manizales, just reaching Termales La Quinta is a journey in itself. The road to the main house ends approximately 1 km (0.6 miles) from the property, so the last leg of the journey is done on foot or horseback. As such, the hacienda is not recommended for those with mobility issues.

Food and drink

Home-cooked Colombian dishes are prepared on the property's wood-burning stove before being served around the solid wooden table in the dining area. Vegetarians are well catered for.

Facilities and activities

The thermal pool is one of the property's highlights, set overlooking the leafy grounds and mountainous backdrop. We recommend having a soak at night, gazing up at the stars. The hacienda also has its own stables, so you can spend time exploring the area on horseback, as well as on foot following the local hiking trails. Wi-Fi is available in the property's communal areas, and there are comfortable sitting areas where you can relax after the day's activities.
