Kosi Forest Lodge is located in the Kosi Bay Nature Reserve, a remote and unspoilt area of lakes, rivers and coastal forests that forms part of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a recognized World Heritage Site.
A tranquil sand forest surrounds the eight thatched suites that are on slightly raised wooden decks with a bedroom and screened-off toilet; although basic, the rooms are charming. The romantic en-suite bathroom, with separate bath and shower, is an open-air reed-enclosed boma, allowing you to bathe under the stars. The lodge has no electricity so at night is romantically lit with lanterns, highlighting the peaceful surroundings. A large Zulu Podberry tree is the focal point of the main lodge with the lounge, dining room and bar all opening on to a large, wooden deck surrounded by the forest. The swimming pool is a short walk away, with beautiful views onto a lake with resident hippos below.
The lodge takes full advantage of Maputuland's sultry weather with most meals served alfresco on the deck or around the fire in the boma area. The lake shore is close to the lodge, whilst the beach is about a 90 minute transfer and can be visited as one of the many activities on offer. Other activities include guided canoeing on the lake system, forest walks, boat trips, snorkeling and day trips to nearby game reserves.

Where possible, we like to offer a range of accommodation for each stop of your trip, chosen by our specialists as some of their favorite places to stay. To help you make the right choice, we give each property a rating based on its facilities and service, but we also look for hotels with distinct character or a location that can’t be bettered.
Set among golden sand dunes bordering a large, secluded beach, Thonga Beach Lodge is an intimately-sized retreat with a relaxing feel. Its thatched rondavel accommodation blends in well with the natural surroundings, and the variety of activities on offer sets it apart from other beachside properties.
