Itinerary idea in detail

Includes international flights from a choice of UK airports, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

  • Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Boston. Arrive in Boston and relax after your flight upon arrival at your hotel.

  • Spend a day discovering the historic Freedom Trail which weaves its way around the city. Don't miss visiting Boston Common, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market or take in a baseball game at Fenway Park.

  • Explore Boston's historic North End on an informative food walking tour. Your tour will delve into the varied history of the city's oldest residential community as you sample a variety of classic New England dishes including a lobster roll and clam chowder.

  • Make your own way to your nearest car hire depot, where your car will be ready to collect. All insurances, road maps and a sat-nav are included. A gentle two-hour drive north takes you through the New England countryside to the coastal town of Kennebunkport, perched on Maine's rocky Atlantic coastline. Your afternoon is free to relax on the beach or explore the galleries and craft shops of this pretty coastal town — I recommend Hurricane for lunch. Continue inland to Jackson, located in the heart of the White Mountains National Forest.

  • Today you have tickets to ride the historic Cog Railway to the top of the North East's highest peak — Mount Washington. Enjoy a three-hour guided train tour where, on a clear day, you can experience spectacular panoramic views. Learn about the history of the mountain, its weather and wildlife, and also visit 'Tip Top House' — the hotel which welcomed the very first adventurers to the summit. Mt. Washington is known for its extreme weather so make sure to wrap up warm!

  • The White Mountains area has plenty to keep you busy, be it art galleries, cruise tours, wildlife or shopping. Kancamagus Highway is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular sections of the White Mountains Trail which stretches 35 miles from Conway in the east to Lincoln in the west. I loved driving this section and taking lots of photo stops.

  • This morning you head off to Woodstock, Vermont. Referred to as the prettiest small town in America, Woodstock is just on the cusp of the Green Mountains. The town is packed full of interesting shops, all surrounded by rolling green hills and fabulous covered bridges.

  • You have a full day to take in the beautiful scenery surrounding Woodstock. Take a scenic drive down to the Green Mountains National Forest, visit some of the little towns dotted around Woodstock, or visit nearby Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park.

  • Your drive today heads into the Berkshires region of Massachusetts, famed for its excellent galleries, museums and of course stunning scenery. On your way there make a pit stop at the Vermont Country Store in Weston — it's absolutely packed full of trinkets gifts and locally made treats. Make sure you try the cheese samples and the maple popcorn.

  • There's plenty to see in the Berkshires — the nearby peak of Monument Mountain will allow you to take in the very best views of the autumn colours. For a bit of local culture make time for the Norman Rockwell Museum this afternoon, and perhaps lunch in nearby Lenox village; the restaurant Alta has a great French menu. Head to the Red Lion Inn, one of the oldest inns in the United States, for a drink on the porch this evening.

  • Drive to Albany this morning, drop off your hire car and catch the Maple Leaf train to Niagara Falls. Relax in style on your business class seats as the scenery of the Finger Lakes weaves past. Arrive at the Falls this evening and check into your hotel.

  • Today you have the day at leisure to explore Niagara Falls. A journey on the iconic and famous Maid of the Mist boat has been arranged. You will board your vessel and journey right to the mouth of the falls where you will experience its awesome power.

  • Your shared coach transfer will take you to Toronto, where you will board your onward flight.

  • Arrive home today to complete your journey.
