Visit Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela
Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela
Puerto Ordaz is the small new town and port of Ciudad Guayana on the banks of the Caroni river.
It is famous for it's Cerro Bolivar open-cast iron mine and the town is reputed to be the richest place per square km in Venezuela.
The precious assets of the area - gold, diamonds, topaz, jasper, bauxite and iron are all turned into products which create money to fill the many new shopping malls which have sprung up.
This is not the most amazing of cities but it is perfect as a stopover on the way to or from the Delta or Gran Sabana.
