On the beach - 8 days

Angsana Lang Co

Hidden away on a long, wide stretch of golden sand, the Angsana Lang Co, Central Vietnam is a chic retreat in an extremely tranquil setting.

An excellent value option, it offers designer style, exceptional service and a host of free activities. It's an atmospheric drive down a meandering road flanked by dense jungle to get to the Angsana, a remote hotel that overlooks a superb beach shared with just one other property.

The secluded setting means the hotel works hard to keep guests happy with excellent facilities and up to ten free activities each day. You can try your hand at snorkelling, windsurfing or kayaking, take out a jet ski or sailing boat, or play golf on the championship 18-hole course designed by Sir Nick Faldo. There's an enormous meandering pool, a beautiful spa and a choice of restaurants, as well as the option to eat at the Banyan Tree next door.

Families are well catered for too with an excellent kids' club and loads of activities. And if you tire of the sun and sand you can make the most of the hotel's location between the historic cities of Hue and Hoi An and take day trips to explore ancient palaces, Chinese temples and colonial shophouses.

Set in blocks around the main building, the rooms here are anything but traditional with urbane, minimalist styling, plenty of high-tech gadgets and lots of space.

Before the beach - 4 days

Saigon & The Mekong Delta

Known by the Vietnamese as Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon was the original ‘Pearl of the Orient’. It blends modern skyscrapers, lively bars and a booming economy with local charm and historical relics of empire and revolution. Explore Notre Dame Cathedral, the Opera House and the Reunification Palace, and visit the nearby Cu Chi tunnels – extensively used by the Viet Cong. A day on the Mekong Delta is also included, enabling you to escape the city and experience the fascinating floating markets and a quieter side of Vietnamese life.

Situated on a peaceful tree-lined boulevard, the Sofitel Saigon Plaza offers modern design with subtle French and Vietnamese influences. The hotel features two restaurants, a spa, pool and poolside bar.

Angsana Lang Co

223 rooms, 4 restaurants, 1 pool

Description

This great value resort sits in a secluded bay nestled between the Truong Son mountain range and the emerald green sea. The beach, which it shares with only one other hotel, is one of the resort’s highlights, a wide sweep of golden sand.

Excellent facilities and a range of excursions, activities and tours mean that there is plenty to keep guests busy with a wide range of water sports as well as land based sports including an 18 hole golf course.

The resort has a smart, modern Asian design with 223 spacious rooms and one of the largest pools in Southeast Asia meandering through the grounds.

For families

The Angsana is a great choice for families with an excellent children’s club, spacious rooms and suites and a programme of daily activities.

Located in a beautiful bay, Angsana Lang Co sits on a wide beach with golden sand and emerald green ocean and shares the beach with only one other hotel, its sister property, Banyan Tree Lang Co.

The location is beautifully secluded so there are no local restaurants and shops but access to plenty of facilities at both the Angsana and the Banyan Tree make up for this. As does the hotel’s shuttle service to both the imperial city of Hue (approximately 50 minutes’ drive) and to the UNESCO World Heritage town of Hoi An (approximately 90 minutes’ drive).

Our opinion

Set on a fantastic beach, this large resort offers plenty of opportunities for activity and exploration. Along with a modern design and excellent facilities, particularly for families, it offers smart, spacious accommodation that is great value for money.

Rooms

The 223 spacious rooms and suites have a modern, Asian décor along with all the facilities you would expect such as air conditioning, television, tea/coffee facilities and a minibar with complimentary soft drinks.

Activities, diving & excursions

The Angsana boasts one of the largest pools in South East Asia; over 300 metres long, it weaves around the resort, underneath the main buildings and onto the beach.  The daily activity programme is updated regularly with a wide range of free daily activities such as archery, ATV rides or kayaking.

There are a number of water sport activities available at the resort including kayaking, windsurfing and wakeboarding (some of which are chargeable). On land there is a floodlit tennis court and a fitness centre as well as an 18 hole golf course designed by Nick Faldo.

Food & drink

There are three restaurants at Angsana Lang Co offering a variety of cuisines and guests can also use the restaurants at the resort’s sister property, the Banyan Tree, on the same bay.

Moomba is set next to the beach serving modern Vietnamese and international cuisine including fresh seafood while as its name suggests, the Rice Bowl concentrates on rice dishes, the cornerstone of most Asian dishes. Market Place restaurant offers both Vietnamese and international dishes.

Moomba’s outdoor deck and open-air first floor are a relaxing spot for pre or post dinner drinks while the speciality drinks at the Rice Bar are made from rice.

Spa Facilities

The Angsana has an extensive, award winning spa with 10 treatment rooms offering a wide range of treatments and therapies including Angsana’s signature hydro-treatment in one of two Rainmist rooms.

Saigon & The Mekong Delta

Location: Saigon

Known by the Vietnamese as Ho Chi Minh City, this astonishing city, full of vitality, was the original "Pearl of the Orient".

Along the old Rue Catinat and in the surrounding boulevards stand the relics of empire and revolution; Notre Dame Cathedral, the Opera House, the Post Office and the Reunification Palace.

Things to see and do in Saigon

This city is undergoing rapid change with growing numbers of gleaming skyscrapers, lively bars and a booming economy all under the watchful gaze of "Uncle Ho", whose statue stands proud outside the old Hotel De Ville. There is still plenty of local charm here - soup sellers ring their chimes to signify a freshlymade lunch, fortune-tellers read palms and the temples fill with incense - but the choice of restaurants is outstanding and the city also boasts some classy boutiques selling lacquer ware, silk and modern art. Tucked in the suburbs of the city, Cholon’s Chinatown market is arguably the best example outside China.

Cu Chi Tunnels

Nearby are the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels, a network of over 250 kilometres of secret underground passages used by the Viet Cong during the conflict with America in the 1960s.

You are also able to see first hand the work done by a school supported by Audley, set up in 1986 by a local charity for the disadvantaged and street children of Saigon.

Sofitel Plaza Hotel Saigon

Accommodation: Sofitel Plaza Hotel Saigon

Located on the tree-lined boulevard of Le Duan, a short distance from the city's commercial centre and landmarks, the Sofitel Saigon Plaza is a comfortable option for a stay in this vivacious city. The hotel has 290 guest rooms and suites all appointed with modern amenities including the renowned Sofitel MyBed and Pillow Menu. Luxury Rooms have access to the Club Lounge, which offers a more private area to relax with refreshments provided throughout the day. There are several restaurants including the signature L'Oliver, where the French Chef serves creative and authentic Provence cuisine in a cosy and relaxed atmosphere, as well as a pool-side bar and lounge. A major draw of the hotel is its large rooftop pool, boasting unrivalled views across the city. A fitness centre, massage and sauna are also available.
