My husband and I are interested in going to Cambodia mainly to see the temples in Siem Reap. We would like to spend two weeks out there and want to see as much of the local culture as possible, but is there much more to see other than the temples?Samantha Ferris, 22 July 2013
Although one of the main lures of Cambodia are the spectacular temples of Angkor, there are plenty of other excursions and places to visit to give you a more unique look at this fascinating country. It is highly recommended to go and see the main temples of the Angkor complex, especially Angkor Wat, the Bayon and Angkor Thom. I also recommend my personal favourite temple, Ta Phrom.
We also offer visits to the Tonle Sap Lake, where you can visit the remarkable floating villages that reside upon it and there are also some great cycling opportunities in the countryside and through the villages around Siem Reap.
In Phnom Penh there is also much to see, including tours to the National Museum, Grand Palace as well as some excellent locations for shopping. We can also arrange to see more of Cambodia's modern history, where you can learn more about the Khmer Rouge and the places where some of their most awful crimes took place; it's not an excursion for everyone, however it's also extraordinary to see how these wonderful people have overcome such turmoil.
Off the beaten track you could visit the sleepy town of Kep and try some of the most amazing seafood that Indochina has to offer, or perhaps a visit to Koh Kong and a stay in a luxury tented camp on this spectacular stretch of river.
For those who like to give a little something back to the community we can arrange visits to projects like Smile for a Child, who provide education for the poorer families in Phnom Penh, or perhaps a visit to Sen Monorom and the ELIE project which looks after hundreds of elephants.
As you can see Cambodia has something to offer everyone and we can easily plan an itinerary to match your own preferences and requirements without making you feel "templed out".
