The Lake House

The Lake House

Located in the small town of Clearwater, the Lake House is an intimate lodge on the shores of Dutch Lake. There are just a handful of suites in this handcrafted log cabin, each boasting a view over the lake as well as a private patio.

The interior is rustic and airy — high ceilings, bare logs and wooden furniture all provide a restful backdrop to allow you to appreciate the scenery outside your generously sized windows. Guests here indulge in a three-course breakfast that spotlights locally sourced delicacies.

The lodge makes a quiet retreat for those who want to enjoy the sound of loons over the lake and the sight of the sun setting behind the nearby mountains. More active guests may want to explore the nearby Wells Gray Provincial Park, a nature reserve that boasts more than three dozen waterfalls. You can indulge in hiking, mountain biking, white-water rafting, canoeing, horse riding, paragliding, fishing and swimming, as well as scenic flights. After a long day, you can retire to the Lake House for some quiet.

The lodge has just three rooms, each a spacious suite with a private bathroom and a patio with a view over the lake. The suites’ rustic decor graciously complements the pristine wilderness that surround the lodge. The walls are made of logs stripped of their bark, the wood still pale, and the floor is polished to a high shine to showcase the wood’s intricate grain and knots. The furniture is also made of natural materials. Each room has large windows so you can wake up to a view of lake and the tree-covered mountains beyond.

Guests can take advantage of free Wi-Fi.

The Lake House is located only minutes away from downtown Clearwater, where you can find shops and amenities. Wells Gray Provincial Park, with all its waterfalls and activities, is just a short drive away. Clearwater is also a convenient stop if you’re on your way to Jasper or Whistler.

Food and drink

A multi-course breakfast is served either in the main dining room or in the comfort of your own room. For other meals, we suggest visiting Hop’n Hog Bar and Smokehouse at some point during your stay. Just a 5-minute drive away, it  offers delicious food with vegetarian options either for lunch or dinner.

Facilities and activities

Use of canoe, row boat and paddle boards are included free of charge at the house. Wells Gray Provincial Park offers a range of activities including horseback riding, hiking, water rafting, fishing and bird watching.

Our opinion

We like Lake House for its intimate and tranquil atmosphere, as well as its location. All three rooms offer views of pristine Dutch Lake, and it’s just a short drive to Wells Gray Provincial Park.
