Punta Islita, Punta Islita, Costa Rica
Hotel Punta Islita is located in a secluded paradise, in Guanacaste, two hours south of Tamarindo. The hotel is set atop a hill and offers spectacular views of the sweeping Pacific Ocean below.
There are just 50 rooms decorated in a distinctive architectural style encompassing a warm ambiance and privacy.
The deluxe rooms feature a small terrace and hammocks; suites - a private jacuzzi; casitas - a spacious dining terrace, private garden with plunge pool; the two bed villas - kitchen, living room, panoramic windows and private pool - ideal for families.
All the rooms are cut into the hillside around a central facility comprising the bar, restaurant, wet bar, pool and gym.
There is a separate complex down by the beach with an additional restaurant and pool. The black sand beach is safe for swimming but you do need to be a fairly strong swimmer.
The hotel also has its own driving range and a unique spa that uses the herbalist wisdom of the local native Chorotega tribes.
One of the reasons we love Punta Islita is its commitment to responsible tourism. The surrounding tropical dry forest is home to hundreds of species of wildlife and the hotel ensures the most appropriate conservation strategies are applied in order to preserve and encourage the propagation of endemic flora and fauna.
They have also pioneered a responsible tourism program that encourages the preservation of local cultures and rational use of natural resources including a public library, a composting station and a recycling program.
Under the hotel's sponsorship and guided by Marcela Valdeavellano and Loida Pretiz, the Punta Islita Contemporary Art Museum is the flagship project of the 'We Care Responsible Tourism Model' and features the works of established Costa Rican and international artists and members of the local community.
