Canyon Lodge has a superb location 20 minutes' drive from the Fish River Canyon. Although a relatively large lodge it certainly does not lack for character.
There are 30 small stone bungalows that are built around the rocks of the granite kopjes. Small paths lead between enormous boulders to the little cottages. Each has a double or twin bed, mosquito nets and en suite bathroom. Usually, a number of the walls of the chalet are the boulders themselves so they are all sorts of shapes and at all manner of funny angles! Outside your cottage there is a small terrace with table and chairs from which you can enjoy the fabulous desert views.
The main lodge houses a dining room with cosy fireplace, shady terrace and small pool. There's always plenty to watch around the lodge from rock dassies sunning themselves on the boulders, to mongooses zipping along the ground or mousebirds and starlings that like to steal the crumbs from your table.
Canyon Lodge is an ideal place from which to explore the canyon. It's a 20-minute drive from the view point and an hour's drive from Ai Ais Hot Springs. You can also arrange to go horse riding from Canyon Lodge and on guided nature walks.
