The Davenport, Dublin, Ireland

OCallaghan Davenport Hotel

Dublin, Ireland

The Davenport offers one of the most impressive exteriors of any hotel in Dublin. Originally built as a prayer hall in the 17th century, it has a dramatic neoclassical façade but unfortunately much of the interior was destroyed by fire in the 1990s.

Inside, it is more modern with classic decor in rich tones. There are 115 rooms and two dining options: Lanyon's Restaurant and the President’s Bar, which is more informal.

Service is warm and friendly and its convenient location is a major draw. Located close to Georgian Merrion Square, home to the National Gallery, the hotel is also within easy walking distance of Grafton Street, Trinity College and historic O’Connell Street.

OUR OPINION:

Although in need of updating, this charming hotel has a great central location, friendly staff and offers excellent value for money. One of our favourite aspects of a stay is the ability to walk to most of the key city sights.

Rooms

The hotel has 115 rooms and suites decorated in a traditional style with warm wood furnishings, burgundy and cream decor and plush bed runners. Rooms range from standard double, twin and triple rooms to more spacious king rooms and junior suites with a separate lounge area. Each room features US and European plug sockets, LCD TV, free Wi-Fi and a standard bathroom layout of a shower over the bath.

Location

The Davenport is located close to exclusive Merrion Square, one of the city's most handsome Georgian districts and home to the National Gallery. The hotel is also within easy walking distance of Grafton Street, Trinity College and historic O’Connell Street as well as many of the city's main museums.

Food and drink

Enjoy the international menu at the hotel’s Lanyon's Restaurant as well as a full Irish buffet or à la carte breakfast. For a more casual dining experience, bar meals are served for lunch and dinner in the characterful President’s Bar with its dark furnishings and wood panelled decor.

Families

Although the hotel does not offer any child-friendly facilities, they can provide a cot or a rollaway bed in most room categories. The playground in nearby Merrion Square is a great place for younger children to explore.

Facilities and activities

The hotel has a small gym which is open 24 hours a day.
