Baglio Oneto Resort
Set upon the hillside above Trapani and Marsala, Baglio Oneto is a charming retreat. The Sicilian term 'baglio' refers to a fortified farmhouse and courtyard, and the hotel largely remains true to this design. Still owned by the original family, the 18th-century buildings have been lovingly converted, with one guest room situated in the fortified tower. Next to reception you’ll find the traditional palmento used for pressing the grapes.
As well as having a swimming pool, the property is part of a small wine estate that still produces wines for use in the hotel. Well-furnished in a classically simple style, a number of the rooms have their own terraces or balconies looking out over the countryside.
All the rooms at Baglio Oneto are comfortably furnished in a simple, classic style with traditional terracotta floors. The majority of the well-equipped bathrooms feature a shower and bath combination. Many of the rooms also feature views out across the countryside to the coast and sea below and a small selection have their own terraces or balconies. Family rooms are available on request and there is also a range of disabled facilities available.
Baglio Oneto is just a short drive from both Trapani and Marsala and is well-located for exploring western Sicily. The coastal salt pans are a short drive away, while the town of Erice can be reached in less than an hour. For those looking to enjoy wine tasting in the wine cellars of Marsala, the drive takes around 30 minutes.
Food and Drink
Breakfast is served in a long dining room that opens out into the historic central courtyard. A buffet affair, the selection consists of a range of traditional Sicilian pastries, fresh fruit and other items. In the evening dinner can be enjoyed in the restaurant, which features a range of hearty local dishes.
Facilities and Activities
With its large, central swimming pool, Baglio Oneto is ideal for families or those wanting somewhere to cool off. Guests can also enjoy an on-site tasting in the hotel’s charming wine cellar, including one of their own Marsala wines as well as a traditional zibibbo.
Effortlessly charming, we particularly like the family-run nature of Baglio Oneto. Its large swimming pool and convenient location make it the ideal place to break up a long journey and cool off with some wine.
