The Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli is a beautifully converted merchant’s palazzo in the heart of Venice that overlooks the Grand Canal. The building itself retains many of the palazzo’s original features, giving it plenty of authentic Venetian character. Arriving by water taxi, you’ll enter by the traditional private water entrance which has steps leading up from the Grand Canal. Many of the rooms contain exposed timber ceilings and, on some, the remnants of the palazzo's original frescoes can still be seen. The second floor sitting rooms, where the merchant family had their suite, contain Murano glass chandeliers along with the original imposing oak doors.
The hotel boasts a number of different room types with views of either the small courtyard or out across the Grand Canal. The larger superior and deluxe rooms are of a good size and are fitted with plenty of modern amenities including air-conditioning, a mini bar and flat screen TV. The décor is traditional in style with brocade wall coverings and elegant furniture, complemented by modern lamp fittings and plenty of electrical sockets. A number of rooms also contain exposed wooden ceilings, blending the historic features of the building with the tasteful modern refurbishment. Most of the rooms contain a bath.
Just a short walk from the Rialto Bridge, Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli is in an excellent location for exploring Venice’s winding streets. Walking to St Mark’s Square takes about 25 minutes or if you would prefer to take a vaparetto (water bus), there is a stop easily located just next door to the hotel.
Food and Drink
A hearty and varied buffet breakfast is offered in the dining room on the ground floor each morning. Guests can enjoy croissants, bread rolls, meats, cheeses, yogurt and fruit along with a small selection of hot options. The hotel has a small lobby bar that is open for drinks until midnight, after which room service can be requested.
This charming and characterful hotel is one of our preferred hotel choices in the heart of Venice. The small boutique feel of the property along with its historic nature makes for a wonderfully authentic Venetian stay.
