OUR OPINION:

This hotel's convenient location a few minutes from the heart of Gion, and its unique boutique style, make it a great option in Kyoto. There is a great on-site restaurant, although do bear in mind that they only serve a set menu, which is priced at a premium.

Rooms

Rooms provide all expected basics such as en suite bathrooms, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi, as well as yukata robes. While the design and décor of the standard rooms are plain, they are more spacious than the average Japanese hotel room. The junior suites step up their design to match the modernity of the common spaces, and have fun extras such as local green teas.

Location

Located in Gion, Kyoto’s ancient geisha district, the Celestine is within walking distance of some of Kyoto’s great offerings. The narrow lanes of Pontocho Alley are only a 12-minute walk away, offering plenty of small eateries amid the glow of paper lanterns. Just beyond Pontocho, Nishiki Market is a haven for shoppers looking for Kyoto souvenirs and foodies seeking street snacks.

Food and drink

  • Buffet breakfast served daily in the dining room.
  • Yasaka Endo restaurant offering evening dinners with a menu full of local ingredients for kaiseki and shabu-shabu meals.
  • Bar Oumie offering drinks and specialty cocktails from 7pm to 1am.

Families

  • Small number of rooms with cots available for families.
  • Can book adjacent rooms but no interconnecting rooms available.

Accessibility

Communal spaces are wheelchair accessible, there is also an accessible twin room available for elderly guests or wheelchair users. In addition, there are wheelchairs available at the front desk for use around the hotel.
