Just around the corner from Porto’s São Bento Train Station and a few minutes’ walk from the Torre dos Clérigos, Sé do Porto and Palácio da Bolsa, the InterContinental Porto is ideally situated for exploring the city’s many sights. Overlooking the Praça da Liberdade, the neoclassical building was once an 18th-century palace, later spending time as a bank before being converted into a hotel.
Black-and-white photographs of old Porto line the corridors leading to the 105 rooms. Each room is decorated in calming shades of white, brown and blue, and features an en suite bathroom with a separate bath and shower. You’ll also find air conditioning, tea-making facilities and complimentary Wi-Fi.
The hotel’s Astória Restaurant serves traditional Portuguese and Mediterranean cuisine with an international touch. On warmer days, it opens out onto the terrace for alfresco dining. The Cardosas Bar is a relaxing lounge space where you can enjoy signature cocktails and local wine. It also offers afternoon tea every day, and on Thursdays there are live fado (traditional Portuguese music) performances.
Rooms are relaxing and comfortable with walls and linens in shades of white, blue and brown, and floor-to-ceiling windows delivering plenty of natural light. Rooms in the executive and suite categories offer views out onto the Praça da Liberdade, while others look out onto the courtyard. Some also feature small French balconies. All rooms have en suite bathrooms with a separate bath and shower as well as flat screen TVs, air conditioning and Wi-Fi.
The hotel is situated right in the heart of Porto, at the bottom of the Praça da Liberdade. The São Bento Train Station, with its impressive azulejo (ceramic tile) design, is just around the corner, and the Torre dos Clérigos is less than a five-minute walk away. Within ten minutes you can reach the Sé do Porto (the city’s central cathedral), the Palácio da Bolsa and the bustling Ribeira waterfront.
