Amakhala Woodbury Tented Lodge, Amakhala Game Reserve, South Africa
Amakhala is a collection of game lodges still owned by the same families of English settlers who arrived in this part of the world over 150 years ago. The 80-square-kilometre reserve encompasses spectacular scenery around the meandering Bushman's River, with its surrounding cliffs and rolling plains.
The reserve provides superb game viewing, with all of the Big Five present, although leopard are rare to see. Cheetah and elephant sightings can be especially memorable here. In addition, there are vast herds of antelope, wildebeest and giraffe and the bird life is prolific. An added bonus is that the Eastern Cape is malaria-free.
Woodbury Tented Lodge consists of ten spacious tents; each is a simply furnished with the essentials you need including an en suite shower and basin but separate toilet facilities which are adjacent to your tent. Sleeping under canvas gives you an authentic safari experience hearing the sounds of the African bush and the lodge is ideally located for this in the Amakhala Reserve, affording you excellent game drives in the surrounding area.
