Grand Hotel Central Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

Located on the edge of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter just steps from the cathedral, the Grand Hotel Central sits behind a neo-classical portico on a busy street. Inside, the lobby is adorned with fresh seasonal flowers and lit by elegant design lamps. Beyond it is a low-lit lounge area filled with deep couches and sleek leather chairs, where complimentary cava and lemon water are available throughout the day.

An ornate elevator dating from the 1920s and a winding marble staircase lead to the hotel’s 146 rooms, each of which features pared-back, contemporary decor. All rooms have plenty of natural light thanks to the historic building’s large windows and also feature free Wi-Fi and a complimentary minibar of soft drinks and beer.

A particular highlight is the rooftop SkyBar where you can lounge with a drink next to a small infinity pool with panoramic views of the cathedral and the sea. As well as the rooftop pool, the hotel offers a small spa and gym, complete with a private sauna and steam room which can be reserved at a supplementary cost.

Rooms

Large windows allow plenty of natural light to flood the modern, minimalist rooms which are decorated with neutral tones but feature splashes of green and red in vibrant accent cushions. All rooms provide free Wi-Fi and a complimentary minibar, including soft drinks and beer. Rooms in the Executive category and above also include a Nespresso machine. En-suite bathrooms feature smooth black granite fixtures as well as rainfall showers.

Location

Just steps away from Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, the hotel is well located for exploring the city. Surrounded by shops and restaurants, it’s also an easy walk to La Rambla, while the metro stop just two minutes down the street can bring you further afield to Montjuïc, Park Güell and the Sagrada Familia.

Food and Drink

A buffet breakfast is served in a split-level room filled with lots of light and comfortable leather sofas and chairs. In addition to the impressive offerings, eggs and omelettes can be prepared to order. For dinner, the hotel’s City Restaurant offers a classic Spanish menu with international flair, or you could just sip an aperitif or post-dinner cocktail in the more casual bar area. The rooftop SkyBar offers the chance to enjoy a drink while taking in views of the cathedral and the entire Gothic Quarter.

Facilities and Activities

In addition to SkyBar, the rooftop terrace features a panoramic infinity pool which is heated during the winter so it can be enjoyed year-round. The hotel also provides a wellness suite where you will find a gym, a massage area, and a private thermal suite and sauna.

Our opinion

Offering high quality surroundings and faultless service, we love the elegance and location of the Grand Hotel Central. The views from the rooftop pool terrace are not to be missed.
