Itinerary idea
Includes international flights from a choice of UK airports, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
-
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Santiago.
-
Arrive in Santiago. You have the afternoon at leisure to explore the cultural scene of Chile’s capital.
-
Today you’ll fly from Santiago to Puerto Williams, where you’ll embark on Silver Wind ready for your cruise. For dinner, you might like to enjoy Italian fare at La Terraza.
-
Today, you’ll complete that great sailor’s milestone, crossing the Drake Passage. Keep a lookout for albatrosses and petrels en route.
-
Another day at sea sailing the Drake Passage. You might curl up in the Observation Library with a good book and some impressive seascape views, or watch a performance in the Show Lounge.
-
Situated at the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, Antarctic Sound will be your first chance to step out onto the ice on a hiking excursion with the Silversea expedition team. Be sure to take your camera to capture the towering icebergs and blue glaciers.
-
If you’re feeling adventurous, you might like to take on one of Antarctica’s biggest thrills, the Polar Plunge. Afterwards, warm up with a drink in the Observation Lounge.
-
Penguins are one of the biggest draws of a trip to Antarctica, and today you may be able to come face-to-face with them. If weather conditions allow, you'll go ashore to observe a penguin colony. Species include chinstrap and gentoo penguins; some crowd beaches while others make their homes on icy escarpments. From on board the ship, you might be able to see them streaking into the water, where they are much more graceful than they are on land.
-
Venturing ashore in the Zodiacs, today you may find yourself hiking on the Peninsula to reach a scenic viewpoint or a point of geological interest. Immerse yourself in the Antarctic landscapes and experience something of what the early explorers must have felt when they traversed this endless-seeming white desert.
-
Another day immersing yourself in the White Continent. Your expert expedition team will be on hand to point out wildlife and explain the unique landscape that surrounds you.
-
Today, your ship will sail (weather willing) into the core of Deception Island’s collapsed caldera, squeezing through the gap in the rocks nicknamed “Neptune’s Bellows”. You can hike the caldera’s lunar landscapes and dip into the frigid waters of Pendulum Cove. You could also get the chance to take in Elephant Island, where the stricken crew of Shackleton’s Endurance miraculously survived a harsh Antarctic winter in 1916. Your ship might also offer in-depth lectures on the subject.
-
Today you’ll disembark your cruise at King George Island, ahead of your flight to Puerto Williams. On arrival you’ll be met by your private driver and transfer to your hotel.
-
Today you’ll fly to Santiago. On arrival, you’ll be driven to your home for the next few nights, the Clos Apalta Residence. Set in the Colchagua Valley with sweeping views across the vineyards, the residence has long produced a selection of world-renowned red wines as part of their Cuvee Alexandre range. You’ll be staying near the winery itself, where tastings are available. The winery and tasting rooms are accessed via a corkscrew staircase cut into the bedrock (it’s deep enough for a pendulum to show the rotation of the Earth).
-
Another day to relax at Clos Apalta Residence. If you’re feeling active today, you might choose to cycle through the vineyards or take a hike through the surrounding forest.
-
Today you’ll transfer back to Santiago ahead of your international flight home.
-
Arrive home to complete your journey.
-
