A stay at Olavipe is a unique way to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the backwaters. As guests of the Parayil Tharakans, a well-connected and prominent Syrian Christian family, you will be staying in their heritage home, built in the 1880s, amidst the lush tropical greenery of Olavipe Island.
Here you can take strolls through the village, explore the estate's 40 acre organic farm of coconut, nutmeg and vanilla, watch prawn farming or just unwind in a hammock. The family boatman can take you for a slow ride along the local backwaters or you can row a canoe on the peaceful lagoon.
Guest rooms are simply and traditionally furnished, cooled by fans hung from the high ceilings, with no air conditioning, and are located in the main house or a stone's throw away in the slightly more private gate house. Traditional style Keralan meals are taken with your well-traveled and entertaining hosts and other guests around the large family dining table.
