House of Agnes

This boutique B&B dates back to the 1400s and features and characteristics of the original building are still evident throughout. Mentioned in Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield (as the house of David’s second wife), the owners are proud of the building’s heritage and have sought to preserve this as much as possible.

The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed with several small lounges and seating areas, a DVD and games library, and a fully-stocked honesty bar. There is no lift, instead, a winding staircase with wooden steps leading past exposed stone walls takes guests up toward the rooms.

Due to the building’s historic nature no two rooms are alike. Each is named after a different world city and has vibrant hues and quirky decor to match its name. Expect patterned wallpaper, large rugs, themed artwork and differing bed sizes and configurations. Eight of the rooms are situated in the old stable buildings within the large walled garden.

In the mornings, a buffet breakfast of fruit and cereals, crusty bread and freshly-baked pastries is served alongside a hot Kentish breakfast cooked to order.
