Huron Wendat museum tour

Hôtel-Musée Premières Nations, Wendake

Take a dive into the Huron-Wendat First Nation history and culture as you explore the dedicated museum.

Canada has a rich indigenous history and there are many ways of immersing yourself in indigenous culture. There are 11 First Nations of Québec Province, and one of the closest to Québec City is the Huron-Wendat. In an effort to further educate about First Nations, there is a dedicated hotel-museum, traditional site, and a light trail through the forest about 30 minutes north of Québec City in Wendake.

Located right by the Akiawenrahk river, under the same roof as the Hôtel-Musée Premières Nations and La Traite Restaurant, the Huron-Wendat Museum promotes the history of the nation and supports the local economy, surrounded by thematic gardens which create an enchanting setting.

With a permanent exhibit ‘Territories, Memories, Knowledge,’ an ongoing programme of temporary exhibits, and numerous activities and themed workshops, the museum carries out its mandate to teach and popularise the history, culture and art of the Wendat people and of other First Nations.

Audio guides are available during opening hours and there are several other guided tours which include visits to the longhouse, a visit to the Notre-Dame de Lorette church, workshops, storytelling, and tea or hot chocolate tasting. As the museum is part of the hotel, there is a restaurant on site providing traditional indigenous fare to complete your experience.
