Rocky Mountaineer train

Rocky Mountaineer rail journey

The Rocky Mountaineer is one of the world’s most iconic train journeys and is a highlight of travelling in western Canada. This two or three day rail journey takes you between the city of Vancouver on the Pacific Ocean to the spectacular Rocky Mountains towns of Jasper, Banff or Lake Louise. Sit back, relax and enjoy the guided commentary and superb hospitality as you pass great river canyons and magnificent mountain landscapes.

The journey will take you across the lush green fields of the Fraser River Valley, through forests and the winding canyons of the Coast and Cascade Mountains to the desert-like environment of British Columbia’s interior. Highlights include the rushing waters of Hell's Gate in the Fraser Canyon and remarkable tunnels that form part of Canada’s rich rail history. Depending on the route chosen, you may also take in Craigellachie where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven-in, the engineering feat that is the Spiral Tunnels, the high peaks of the Continental Divide and Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Do keep a look out for wildlife as you travel along. The train operates in an easterly or westerly direction, between April and October. At the end of your first day you will disembark and transfer to a hotel, usually in Kamloops, for your overnight stay.

You can choose to travel with either the GoldLeaf or SilverLeaf service. SilverLeaf passengers are assigned seating in the single level dome coach which offers panoramic views through the large windows. Breakfast and lunch are served at your seat. SilverLeaf passengers also get a choice of main course as well as complimentary snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages throughout the journey. GoldLeaf passengers enjoy spacious seats in a bi-level glass domed carriage with full panoramic windows. Meals, including a hot breakfast, are served in the lower-level GoldLeaf dining room. You can expect a choice of starters, main courses and desserts prepared by accomplished chefs, along with a selection of excellent wines. Complimentary snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available throughout the journey. GoldLeaf passengers also have access to an outdoor viewing platform which is ideal for capturing photographic memories of this magnificent journey.
