Trapp Family Lodge
Trapp Family Lodge, Monteverde Cloud Forest, Costa Rica
The Trapp Family Lodge is a true rustic mountain lodge tucked away up a 300 metre steep hill, 10 minutes out of Monteverde town and the closest hotel to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
It is built in swiss chalet style offering rooms and mountain suites all with good views of the surrounding forest and its own private reserve. The mountain suites are newer and located away from the main building up a slight slope - please be prepared with your own umbrella or rain coat as the hotel do not provide them.
All 26 rooms are simply decorated but comfortable and there is a small bar and good restaurant attached to the hotel. There are few facilities here, so please bear this in mind, however, this is a lovely place to stay for a couple of nights for those that prefer to be more isolated to really enjoy the peace of the cloud-forest.
Should you wish to travel into town a taxi costs about $15 each way. Please note that there is no heating at this hotel so it can feel pretty damp and chilly up here due to the nature of the environment, and if the wind gets up, drafty too. Be sure to take extra layers and ask for extra blankets should you require them.
Please note no smoking is allowed on the hotel grounds.
