Riverdene Family Lodge

Shamwari was the first private game reserve to be established in the Eastern Cape, and is now the largest, with an area of 250 sq km (96 sq miles). As well as providing world-class game viewing in a malaria-free reserve, there is a great focus on conservation here, and the Born Free Foundation is one of the reserve’s major projects in this regard.

Guests can visit the Born Free Foundation during their safari and bush walks are also offered at Shamwari alongside game drives, however availability for these activities is limited so they should be pre-booked with your specialist. Children over the age of four years are also allowed on game drives and child-minding facilities for children under the age of four years are available at an additional cost.

Riverdene Family Lodge is a farmhouse which has carefully been converted so that you can enjoy the safari experience without compromising on luxury. The lodge is very exclusive, with just nine interleading rooms which are also equipped with sleeper couches. The spacious rooms are decorated with natural wood that’s complemented by the black-and-white decor.

Although set in the Shamwari Private Game Reserve, the lodge is fenced, allowing you to enjoy the gardens, the outdoor pool and a lovely veranda dining area. The lodge also has a kids' club and Adventure Centre to keep children of all ages enthralled.
