VOI Donna Camilla Savelli

VOI Donna Camilla Savelli lies in the heart of the Trastevere area of Rome, one of the most characterful and scenic areas of the city. Here small shops, restaurants and churches line narrow, cobbled lanes creating a lovely atmosphere. The history of the structure is evident throughout the hotel; once a monastery housing Roman nuns, there is still a Baroque church on site and a handful of elderly nuns still live in one area of the hotel. At times in the evening they can be seen quietly going about their business around the property.

Today, the hotel has done a masterful job of staying true to this storied history while also creating a modern retreat in the middle of the Eternal City. What was once a stoic, porticoed hall now boasts a black and white checkered marble floor leading from the reception to well-furnished sitting rooms. Il Ferro e il Fuoco restaurant, located in the courtyard during the warmer months and in the contemporary black and gold dining room in winter, serves Renaissance inspired dishes.

Terracotta tiles and wood beamed ceilings in the rooms serve as a reminder that they once housed nuns, yet soft brocade fabrics, marble bathrooms and modern amenities create an understated luxury for today’s visitors.

A peaceful, green courtyard area creates a quiet place to relax while a roof terrace offers expansive views over the rooftops of Trastevere and beyond.
