Bhamo is a laid-back market town which is home to a wide variety of ethnic tribal people, including Shan, Kachin and Lisu.

Whilst not particularly noticeable in itself, the town does make a good start or end point for popular cruises on the stunning upper reaches of the Ayeyarwady River.
