The Anantara is a much needed luxury addition to Salalah. Many low-rise villas are set around a large pool, as well as by the beach and lagoon in a landscape dotted with palm trees. The interiors are comfortable and plush, with touches of Omani architecture and culture throughout. Facilities include a beautiful pool overlooking the private beach along with a stunning spa, as well as many land and water sports options.
The Anantara has 136 rooms and villas, with two main options. All are designed with luxury and comfort in mind, combined with local Omani touches in the decoration and furnishing. The 40 rooms all have either a balcony or terrace, and the deluxe rooms also have a spacious living area. All come with views of either the beach or the gardens. The 96 villas are the ultimate luxurious option with outdoor patios and separate dining and living space. 88 of the villas also come with private pools and even private butler service. There are also two and three bedroom options.
The hotel is set right on the beach, next to the Al Baleed Archaeological Park, yet is also close to the centre of Salalah. It is only a 15 minute drive from the airport. Its situation means it is a great place to explore the entire Dhofar region from, as well as relaxing in this tropical corner of the Arabian Gulf.
Food and Drink
The hotel has a great range of eating options, with the main restaurant Sakalan providing all-day international dining with an Omani touch. This is where your buffet breakfast will be served. The Mekong provides a taste of south east Asia and Al Mina offers a beachside Mediterranean dining option for both lunch and dinner. The hotel doesn’t currently have a licence to serve alcohol.
The resort is a great family option with all rooms able to accommodate children. There is much to do for children and teenagers, with an outdoor play area and children’s pool, and separate kids' and teens' clubs with staff on hand running a great program of daily activities to keep them entertained, from cookery classes to karaoke.
Facilities and Activities
The main pool runs through the centre of the resort up to the start of the beach. There are many on site activities including beach sports and tennis courts. There is a gym along with a spa and hammam for the ultimate in relaxation. There is also a good range of specialised activities including cooking classes, water sports and fishing charters.
This is an excellent property for those looking for a luxury experience, particularly for those celebrating a special occasion as the hotel offers personal services such as a private dinner on the beach. We have been impressed with the service levels and excellent cuisine.
