Catalonia las Cortes
Set in an 18th-century building on a quiet side street just off Madrid's central Plaza de Santa Ana, the Catalonia Las Cortes is a classically elegant boutique hotel. It is located in the bustling Las Letras district and the surrounding streets are filled with some of the city’s best tapas bars, while the Museo del Prado can be reached on foot in around 10 minutes.
Inside, you’ll find high ceilings, polished marble or parquet floors, and traditional wood panels on the walls. The reception area gives way to a lounge filled with comfortable seating and a small bar, while an original wooden staircase leads up to the 65 rooms. Each is decorated in a muted palette of greys, whites and browns with large windows and antique furnishings. Some feature marble columns, intricate stuccowork and frescoed ceilings. Along with tea and coffee facilities, all rooms offer air conditioning, TVs and free Wi-Fi in addition to marble bathrooms.
A varied buffet breakfast including plenty of Spanish fare is served each morning, while the hotel’s location means there are plenty of restaurants to discover nearby.
The rooms are classically elegant in style and feature a grey-brown palette and antique or high-quality reproduction wood furnishings. Some have a simple, modest style and others feature ornate detailing such as marble columns, intricate, gilded stuccowork or frescoed ceilings. All have large windows that flood the rooms with natural light as well as satellite TV, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and tea and coffee facilities. Rooms also feature spacious, marble bathrooms with large mirrors and a bath and shower.
Just a ten minute walk from the Museo del Prado, Catalonia Las Cortes is well-situated for exploring the city, in addition to being surrounded by some of the best restaurants in Madrid. You can reach the Real Jardín Botánico in about ten minutes and El Retiro Park in about 15. In the other direction, the Palacio Real is about 20 minutes away on foot.
Food and Drink
A buffet breakfast is served each morning with a wide selection of Spanish options. Although the hotel does not have a restaurant, a complimentary snack corner is available throughout the day. For lunch and dinner, the hotel is conveniently located near Plaza de Santa Ana and Calle de las Huertas, two of the best places in Madrid for sampling traditional Spanish tapas.
We love the understated charm of the Catalonia Las Cortes. Its elegant interiors and calm atmosphere provide an appealing retreat from the busy streets. We find its convenient location to be one of the best in the city.
